Hawkins County Man Pleads Guilty To Framing Man On Attempted Murder Charge

A jury has found a Hawkins County man guilty of trying to frame his ex girlfriends boyfriend for attempted murder. 45 year old Billy McCarty Amyx is guilty of filing a false report and fabricating evidence. Amyx told authorities he was shot once by 58 year old John Clark Weaver of Johnson City in a 2015 argument. Weaver, wrongfully spent three weeks in jail on a 750 thousand dollar bond. Weaver was released from jail after it was proven he could not have possibly shot Amyx because he was in another town at the time of the alleged shooting. Authorities say Amyx also planted blood on Weaver’s car. Amyx will be sentenced on July second could face three to six years in prison.
