Wise County lawmaker to state game officials: Get the elk out of here
Wise County supervisors have sent a clear message to Richmond and to game officials: get Elk out of the county.
County lawmakers recently passed a resolution asking to be taken out of the state’s elk management zone due to agriculture damages. They are also requesting a deer stamp to be invoked to allow hunters to thin out elk herds. Elk was reintroduced into Southwest Virginia in 2013 and a survey of local residents favor hunters being allowed to harvest the animals when the herd grows to a large level.
