Virginia Highlands Airport receives $4M in federal transportation dollars

Officials at Virginia Highlands Airport are receiving more construction capital to help expand their facilities.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a $4.8 million grant that will allow the Abingdon airway to extend its current runway system. The new grant will be paired with $4.1 million awarded in September by the Federal Aviation Administration. US Congressman Morgan Griffith said the project will help Virginia Highlands’ capabilities and aid in its role in regional economic development.
