NEW: Ballad Health confirms 23 staff members, six patients positive for COVID-19

Ballad Health confirmed that 23 team members at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton have tested positive for COVID-19 during a press conference held on Wednesday.

Ballad officials confirmed the news during a press conference Wednesday, stating that 6 patients also tested positive for the virus. The cluster was limited to the geriatric psych unit, and the first case was identified on July 8th.

All team members and affected patients have been isolated, and any new patient admission to Sycamore Shoals is being placed on a closed unit.
