UPDATE: Bristol, Kingsport, and Sullivan County School students and staff to be required to wear a face covering when returning to the classroom
Students and staff who attend Kingsport City, Sullivan County and Bristol, TN City Schools will be required to wear a face covering when returning to classes in-person.
Officials with the Sullivan County and Bristol City school districts confirmed that information to us, citing Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable’s mask mandate as what they will follow, which does not exempt schools.
They both say they will provide masks to those who need them. Kingsport City Schools also listed the requiring of wearing face coverings for students and staff on their updated school supplies list.
Mayor Venable’s executive order, which went into effect on July 12th, is in effect through August 12th at 11:59 p.m. It is unclear if schools will start the academic year with in-person learning or fully remote learning, as they are basing that decision off of a color-coded framework for reopening, described in the image below.
