Officials: TN August primary early voting numbers significantly higher than in 2016

Tennessee election officials say ballots cast early for the 2020 August primary saw a 105% uptick compared to early voting in 2016.

During the two week early voting period, the secretary of state’s office reported that just over 578,000 Tennesseans participated. The 2016 early voting period saw a turnout of around 281,000 voters.

Locally, Johnson County had the largest voter percentage turnout of all Northeast Tennessee counties with 20.23%, Sullivan County had the most voters with 13,494, and Washington County had the highest percentage early voting increase from 2016 to 2020, as the county experienced a 306% jump.
