Sheriff: Abingdon man claims shooting of wife was accidental
An Abingdon, Virginia woman was flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital after police said her husband said he accidentally shot her.
James Christopher Barnette, 56, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and a gun charge following the Thursday mid-morning shooting in the 25000 block of Watauga Road, according to Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Blake Andis and Commonwealth’s Attorney Josh Cumbow.
The 71-year-old female victim was listed in critical condition, Andis noted.
