US Dept. of Labor Unemployment Claims Report 9/3: 23,668 first time jobless claims filed last week in TN and VA

Nearly 24,000 first time unemployment claims were filed last week in Tennessee and Virginia.

The US Dept. of Labor weekly jobless claims report says for the week ending Aug. 29, 12,035 first time unemployment claims were filed in TN while 11,633 first time unemployment claims were filed in VA. Each state experienced a slight increase from the prior reporting week.

Locally, 818 first time jobless claims were filed last week in Northeast TN, while 9,731 claims were continued. Below is the state and local breakdown of new and continued unemployment claims:
