Investigators: Blood-alcohol level of Appalachian State student at time of fatal crash more than double the legal limit

Police continue to gather evidence following a fatal alcohol-related crash involving a student from Appalachian State.

Madison Jane Mahagan, 21, of Durham, was charged with DWI after her car struck two pedestrians on East King Street late Friday, killing James and Tracy Lindamore of Frostburg, Maryland, according to the Boone Police Department.

Officers reported that Mahagan’s blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit and Watauga County, North Carolina prosecutors could pursue additional charges.
