US DOL Unemployment Claims Report 9/17: 22,392 first time jobless claims filed last week in TN and VA

Over 22,000 first time jobless claims were reported last week in Tennessee and Virginia.

The weekly unemployment claims report from the US Dept. of Labor says for the week ending Sept. 12, 10,771 residents in Tennessee filed for first time claims, while 11,621 people in Virginia filed for first time claims.

Locally, 493 first time jobless claims were filed last week in Northeast TN, while 8,669 claims were continued from the week prior. Below is the state and local breakdown of newest unemployment numbers:
