Virginia Department of Health confirms first child death in state from COVID

The Virginia Department of Health has confirmed the first death of a child in the Commonwealth as a result of the COVID virus.

According to a report issued by the agency on Friday, the teenager resided in the Southside Health District located in Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg counties.

Virginia Health Commissioner Norman Oliver extended condolences to the family and warned residents that no age group is immune from the disease.
