Report: UT Athletic Department workers, coaches to have 5 to 10 percent compensation cut

Coaches and other employees at the University of Tennessee Athletic Department will have their salaries reduced for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Published reports said those with compensation between $60,000 and $150,000 will receive a 5 to 10 percent cut beginning Nov. 1.

The pay cuts and other cost-cutting measures such as a hiring freeze and reductions in the department’s travel budget have been implemented due to a loss in revenue caused by the pandemic.

All athletic employees are impacted except for head football coach Jeremy Pruitt who recently received a contract extension from Athletic Director Phil Fulmer that calls for a $400,000 raise. Pruitt has deferred that payment until 2021.
