Homeless Man Charged With Auto Burglary
Johnson City police have charged a homeless man with auto burglary. 50-year-old Daniel Barker was arrested after an investigation into the auto burglary that happened at Ruby Tuesdays. Officers determined that Barker entered the vehicle and took property. Some of the property was still in Barker's possession at the time of his arrest. He's being held on a 15 thousand dollar bond. Barker will be arraigned today in Sessions Court. (JB)

Bond Bumped in Motel Standoff
A judge has raised the bail for Shawn Sykes of Bristol Virginia who was arrested at a Johnson City motel Friday after an 11-hour stand off with police. Sykes and his wife Robin were apparently running a meth lab out of the motel and both are wanted in Virginia for assaulting a police officer. Shawn Sykes was being held on $103,000 bond, but that was bumped to $173,000 in his initial court appearance because of his prior record. (JM)

Hawkins Drug Bust
There was a major drug bust over the weekend in Hawkins County. Charles Laing was arrested at his home on Beech Creek. Authorities allege that Laing was bringing high powered pain killers into the area from Georgia and other states. Officers found several hundred Oxycodone pills and other controlled substances. An indoor marijuana growing operation was found in one of the home's bedrooms. Laing will be arraigned later this week. (JB)

UPDATE: Stand-Off Details
After 11 hours of negotiations U-S Marshals and local police crashed into a motel room that a Bristol couple were holed up in today. Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal says they were targets of a Fugitive Taskforce. Authorities hit the room at Motel 6 on East Mountcastle Dr. with SWAT teams from both the Johnson City Police and the Washington Co. Tennessee Sheriff’s Departments. The officers swarmed the room at Motel 6 with fire department water hoses streaming water to meet threats of fire and explosions that were made. 41 year old Shawn Sykes and his wife 43 year old Robin Sykes of Bristol, Va. were arrested without injury to anyone. They face a laundry list of charges including attempted arson, methamphetamine possession and being fugitives.(CS)

Two Women Wanted for Drug Murder Arrested
Two Knoxville women wanted for murder in a drug deal gone bad are in custody within 24 hours of being put the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s top 10 most wanted list. Trina Littlejohn and Natasha Davis were being sought for the aggravated kidnapping and murder of Lisa Young in Union County two weeks ago. Two other suspects in the drug related murder were already in custody. The two women gave themselves up to Knoxville police late Thursday afternoon. (JM)

Caregiver Arrested for Patient Abuse
A Kingsport man has been charged with abusing a mentally challenged adult for whom provided in home care. A TBI investigation resulted in the indictment by a Washington County Tennessee grand jury and the arrest of Timothy Hudgins who provided care for the impaired young man as an employee of Kingsport’s RHA Health Services. Relatives of the victim apparently discovered the abuse and Hudgins was fired by the home health care provider. (JM)

Fall Branch District THP Memorial Day Stats
Even though state numbers have not been released, the Fall Branch District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol has released their statistics. Troopers wrote 601 citations, arrested five drunk drivers, and investigated 21 crashes. One of those crashes was alcohol related. Troopers worked a fatal crash in Sullivan County on May 28th. (JB)

New Twist in Drug Charges
Seventeen persons are already jailed in a joint Carter/Johnson County drug investigation. Sheriff Chris Mathes says they went at cases a little differently in this instance. Those arrested were charged in most cases with purchasing chemicals needed in making methamphetamine. Many purchases made in Carter County drug stores waved a red flag to investigators and prosecutors. Mathes confirms that there could eventually be as many as 70 arrests in the indictments that have been returned. While being arrested a Butler man, Theodore Michael Hoover was allegedly caught in the act of cooking a batch of methamphetamine. Totals in the investigation are more than 3 hundred counts of Promotion of Methamphetamine Manufacture.(CS)

Man Arrested After Hit And Run
Johnson City police have charged a city man after a hit and run accident. It happened Tuesday at the One Stop on South Roan Street. 24-year-old Derek Bare is charged with being an Habitual Motor Offender, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and one count of Due Care. He is being held on a six thousand dollar bond and will be arraigned Thursday morning. (JB)

Rape Of Child And Incest Arrest
A Kingsport man has been arrested and charged with rape of a child and incest. 41 year old William Lee Martin was out of jail on bond for Aggravated Sexual Battery at the time of the alleged incident. He was arrested over the weekend by Sullivan County deputies and placed in the county jail on a 50 thousand dollar bond. (JB)
