Pharmacist from Coeburn Killed in Virginia Beach Robbery
It’s reported that a pharmacist shot and killed in a robbery in Virginia Beach hailed from Southwest Virginia and is being mourned by many. 46-year-old David Kilgore, a 1985 graduate of Coeburn High School, was killed at Beach Pharmacy on the oceanfront. Authorities say a robber who demanded drugs and fled, then led a violent pursuit by police, firing gunshots at officers before finally crashing his car and coming to a stop. Walter Lane Hubbard, also a suspect in another pharmacy robbery the same day, is charged with first degree murder, attempted robbery, robbery and use of a firearm in a felony. He’s behind bars without bond. (LM)

Gunshots Fired in Bristol During Pursuit by Police
Gunshots were traded as Bristol Virginia police pursued a drug suspect. No one was injured but the armed pursuit continued into Bristol, Tennessee and caused King University and other schools to go on lockdown. Jonathan Cody Vinson, a convicted felon, was driving as a 17-year old male is accused of leaning out the passenger window and firing a gun at Detective Aaron Hankins. Bristol, VA Officers say shots were fired at the suspect, but no one was injured. The case is being turned over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, independent of the local departments. The two suspects are awaiting extradition to Virginia on charges including Attempted Capital Murder. (JH)

Lower Bond Denied
A judge says indications are the Johnson City man who fired gunshots in a dispute with his cousin may now also face a charge of violation of probation. That’s what Judge Don Arnold advised William Letcher in court, in denying any reduction of his $10,000 bond. Letcher didn’t injure anyone but because of the gunfire, was put in jail for felony reckless endangerment.

Another Fatal Domestic Shooting in Area
Another fatal case of domestic violence – this time in the Kingsport area. Authorities say 20-year old Edith Neely was shot at least once and died in front of her two children under the age of two, and her husband, 23-year old Ricky Neely was rushed to the hospital, also shot and critically wounded. It happened at a trailer park at 312 new Summerville Road, Lot 16, in the Rock Springs area. Leslie Earhart from the Sullivan County sheriff’s office said, “It appears they were arguing. They were a married couple. No one heard gunshots. They were found by a relative who came over to check on them.” The young children were not harmed. This just after two died in a domestic shooting in Church Hill and four died in Glade Spring.

Car Stolen After Shooting
The victim says her car was stolen in an attempt to flee the scene of a shooting. 19-year old Matthew Norris was arrested after striking another vehicle with the victim’s car, and she was able to persuade him to wait for police to arrive. Norris was released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound, and was jailed for theft over 10-thousand dollars, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a revoked license. Police report they were summoned to apartments on South Austin Springs Road, after reports of a home invasion, in which four people were tied up, robbed and a gunshot was fired. And then 19-year-old Joshua Stevens, son of a retired city policeman, reported he got loose from being tied up, grabbed a gun and chased after the thieves, firing as one got away and one was shot in the abdomen. Police arrested Stevens on charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and possession of more than 750 Xanax pills. He was arraigned in court and faces a preliminary hearing March 17th. Police have not identified who was shot and have not reported finding the man who got away. (LM)

Stratton Murder Trial Continues
The murder trial of 33-year-old Justin Stratton of Johnson City continues… with prosecutors showing pictures of the Gary Couch of Greene County dead and riddled with eight gunshots. Police say Stratton was ringleader of a band of thieves who saw Couch flashing a big roll of cash while playing pool at Numan’s bar downtown. Then he was lured to a back road, shot, run over with a stolen vehicle and robbed. Stratton, pleads guilty to the vehicle theft, but claims he was at his mother’s when the shooting happened. Three co-defendants who are to testify against him are, in his attorney’s words, trying to save their own hides.
