Norton Man Involved in Shooting, Assault, Remains Critical
Norton Police Chief James Lane says Jay Ray Thacker remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. He is in Bristol’s hospital after authorities say he assaulted his wife by choking her and then shot himself at their home in Norton. Lane says it happened after Thacker was locked out of his house. The chief says Mrs. Thacker was not seriously injured, but Thacker did shoot and kill her German Sheppard while in a kennel. (LM)

Police say a man locked out of his house turned very violent, assaulting his wife, shooting her German Shepard in a kennel, and then shooting himself in the head. 49-year old Jay Ray Thacker is in Bristol’s hospital with a gunshot wound. He was transferred there after first going to Norton’s hospital. Police say Thacker of 1545 Main Avenue, Southwest West, got into an argument with his wife due to being locked out of his home, went to a neighbor’s, brandished a 45 caliber pistol, demanded a cellphone and then shot the dog. Authorities say he proceeded to break into the rear door of his home and assaulted his wife by choking her before shooting himself. (LM)

Man Accidentally Shot By His Wife While the Pair Showed Off New Gun
A scary accident in Kingport early this morning leaves a man recovering from a gunshot wound. Sources say the man and his wife were showing off a new Ruger LCR 38-caliber revolver they bought over the weekend to their daughter via Skype. The weapon discharged and hit the man in the upper right thigh. No word on his condition, but officers say no charges have been filed.

Bonds were set and preliminary hearings scheduled for two people charged after a gun battle Friday in Johnson City left one man dead. Police say a dispute escalated to 30-year-old Michael Rowe shot dead, and 29-year-old Moses Alfonso Ballard Jr., wounded in the exchange of gunfire, charged with shooting Rowe. Ballard is in jail now under $200,000 bond. 24-year old Tonya Sue Hartley is accused of chasing after Ballard firing more gunshots at him. Hartley was arrested for aggravated assault and other charges. She’s jailed under $100,000 bond. Both face a preliminary hearing July 14th.

Damascus Shooting Update
A man died after being shot by a law officer near Damascus, Virginia. State police say a Washington County Virginia sheriff’s deputy shot Mike Huffman at his home on Zion Church Road. The deputy was responding to reports of family dispute and gunshots being fired. Investigators say the deputy found the 56 year old Huffman armed with a handgun with which he threatened the officer.
