An investigation is underway into the death of a Southwest Regional Jail inmate. Authorities have identified the deceased as 42 year old Jeffery Allen Kilgore who was awaiting a civil commitment on prior sex offenses. Police say that Kilgore died after an altercation in the cell block with 21 year old Shannon Bellamy of Gate City. The fight happened as inmates were finishing up their lunch hour. No weapons were used, and the fight lasted just over a minute. The Virginia State Police are conducting an investigation into the incident. (jb)
