Arrests In Claw Hammer Murder
A Johnson City couple has been charged in the claw hammer death of a 78-year-old man whose body was found in Unicoi County. The decomposing body of Lonnie Townsend was found off Spivey Mountain Road in Unicoi County Friday morning. Authorities say identification is not official at this time but they're very positive that it is Townsend. 43-year-old Jason Pate and 21-year-old Whitney Kristina Harris, both living in a trailer park on Rockhouse Road are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree while murder committing a felony and tampering with evidence. Townsend had been reported missing April 17th. Witnesses later saw Pate driving a red pickup truck that fit the description of Townsend's vehicle. Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes has been leading the investigation along with Johnson City detectives and Unicoi County Sheriff Ed Herndon.(CS)
