Couple Appointed Lawyers, Hearing Set For June
A Carter County couple implicated in the death of 78 year old Lonnie Townsend made their first court appearance on Monday. 21 year old Whitney Harris and 43 year old Timothy Pate were appointed public defenders, and their cases continued until June 26th. Lonnie Townsend was reported missing April 17th. Johnson City police questioned the couple. Whitney Harris is said to have taken police to Little Ball Creek Road in Erwin where they found Townsend's remains. She is alleged to have told police that Timothy Pate killed Townsend by hitting him in the head with a claw hammer. (jb)
