Civil Rights Investigation Underway
The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division will be in Sullivan County this week to meet with the Sullivan County Sheriffs Department. Inmates at the county jail are claiming that the department is violating the religious freedoms of some of the inmates. They claim that some inmates are being denied access to religious texts like the Koran, and religious articles such as prayer rugs. Muslim detainees say that they are not allowed to have group prayer services at the jail.
