Murder Suspect Moved To High Security Facility
A Carter County jail inmate charged with murder has been moved to a more secure facility. Timothy Pate is accused of killing 78 year old Lonnie Townsend by beating him in the head with a claw hammer. Pate's alleged co-conspirator, Whitney Harris led police to Townsend's body on Spivey Mountain Road in Unicoi County. Sheriff Chris Mathes says that Pate tried to kill himself sometime after his arrest on Friday. Pate has been moved to Riverbend Maximum Security Prison near Nashville. (jb)
