Homicide Charged in Vehicular Crash
A 21-year-old Jonesborough woman was killed in a single vehicle accident on Telford New Victory Road early Thursday morning. Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim as Britney L. Hankal, a passenger in a car driven by 21-year-old Brandon Pickering. The investigation showed they were traveling at a high rate of speed with the driver apparently losing control the car, striking a tree, and ending up in a grassy area. Drinking was suspected in connection with the fatal crash. Criminal charges of vehicular homicide have been filed against Pickering. He was injured in the crash. Investigation by Trooper Jeffrey Appleba showed that Hankal was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigating officer has requested a blood-alcohol test and a drug screen for the driver of the fatal vehicle.(CS)
