ETSU to Host Spirit of the Olympics Friday Morning
The spirit of the Olympics will be at East Tennessee State University on Friday. Olympic Day will be held each year in June at ETSU and all events are open to the public and admission is free. ETSU was designated as a U.S. Olympic Training site for weightlifting and part of that designation means the school will hold an annual Olympic Day which has been scheduled for this Friday from 10am until 12:30 in the mini dome known as the ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center. After a brief ceremony and remarks from a senior U.S. Olympic Committee official guests can participate in a number of games and activities. Anyone can attend and some organizations are busing in up to 700 children for the event. ETSU will screen athletes who apply to train at the center and those selected will be admitted to ETSU and can enroll as full-time students. The 2012 Olympics will be held July 27th through August 12th in London. (bg)
