Kingsport BOE Upset with Mayor
The Kingsport Board of Education is upset with Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips for not consulting them regarding a new appointment to their Board. After Board member Cheryl Harvey resigned last week, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Alderman unamiously voted to replace her with Andy King, the Executive Director of the Meadowview Resort and Convention Center. Mayor Phillips says King is well qualified to sit on the Board of Education and he doesn’t understand why the Board is upset they weren’t consulted about King’s appointment. Phillips says he consulted several community leaders who were all supportive of King being placed on the Board. He also says that he hopes the issues members of the Board have with King’s appointment will be resolved soon. (hra)
