Bristol VA Will Buy Over 140 -Acres On Lee Highway
The Bristol Virginia city council has agreed to the purchase over 140 -acres of land on Lee Highway from some 12 –property owners. The hope is to see more commercial development in that area. They all agreed that the 30 parcels at Exit 5 of Interstate 81 will attract larger retailers and national chain restaurants. They believe the project could employ more than 2 –thousand people and bring in about 5 -million dollars in annual sales tax revenue. A 25 -million dollar loan is the next step. The city can keep 100 -percent of the sales tax if they use the proceeds to pay off the borrowed money then once the bonds are repaid the sales tax revenue would be shared with the state. (bg)
