Competition is a Concern with Major Commercial Center
As the city of Bristol Virginia proceeds with plans to develop a major commercial center, competition is a concern with a similar project planned just five miles away in Bristol Tennessee. The Pinnacle is said to be the largest new retail project in the nation just off Exit 74 at Bristol West on the state line where the Bass Pro Shop is expected located. Bristol Virginia is looking to borrow 25-million dollars to purchase 140 acres near Interstate 81ís Exit 5 along Lee Highway with plans to build a large shopping, dining and entertainment complex. They claim to have major national retailers and restaurants interested in that location. A public meeting will be accommodated at the councilís next meeting August 28th. The city of Kingsport is also moving forward to develop a similar project near Exit 56. (bg)
