Man Charged In Girlfriend's Death
Johnson City police have officially charged 31 year old Stephen Bennett with second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. He is alleged to have choked 28 year old Vonda Donaldson to death last weekend. Bennett is accused of weighting down her body a dumping it into Watauga Lake. Donaldson's body was recovered late Wednesday by members of the Carter County Sheriff's Department and emergency rescue squad members. Bennett was arrested early on for parole violation by Johnson City detectives. The murder charge will remain with Johnson City. Carter County will more than likely prosecute the abuse of a corpse charge. (jb)
