Did The Devil Make Him Do It?
A local attack on Christmas is hard to explain. A man who destroyed an elf and Christmas stocking light display in the Rogersville city park couldn’t explain himself. While 18-year old Darrion Tyler McCann was riding home from work with a friend they decided to check out the parks elaborate Christmas light displays. McCann got out for a closer look and then started destroying them. A witness reported the vandalism complete with vehicle description and tag number so Rogersville police were able to locate the vehicle and execute a traffic stop. McCann said he was only looking and the next thing he knew he was pulling them down saying that he just went off. He pleaded guilty to one count of vandalism in Hawkins County Sessions court in exchange for 11 months and 29 days of supervised probation with restitution yet to be determined. The estimated value of the two displays were set at over 3-thousand dollars but park crews say they were able to repair the bent displays for about 125-dollars. (bg)
