Senate Approves New Members For TVA Board of Directors
The U.S. Senate has approved four new members to serve on the Tennessee Valley Authorities board of directors. The nominations include Vera Lynn Evans and Michael McWherter both of Tennessee, C. Peter Mahurin of Kentucky and Joe H. Ritch of Alabama. President Barack Obama made the nominations in September to fill vacancies on the nine-member board. TVA Chairman Bill Sansom said on the agency’s twitter account that he was looking forward to working with the new board members pending the president’s approval. TVA now provides electricity to 9 million people in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. (bg)
