School Board Willing To Pay For More Resource Officers? The Wise County School Board may decide to add enough School Resource Officers to have one posted at all county schools. They are trained and experienced Wise County sheriff’s deputies that are fully equipped. If approved the school division would reimburse the sheriff’s office for wages and benefits of about 40-thousand dollars each. The school division expects to pay about 500-thousand a year. Meanwhile, the new Union High School in Big Stone Gap and Central High School in Wise are both under construction and expected to be ready around Christmas. (bg)
