Roadway Summary
The winter weather wreaked havoc on roadways around the region. In Northeast Tennessee Interstate 26 was not moving at all during afternoon commute. At least two tractor trailers jack knifed added to the slushy snowfall equals some travelers stuck in their vehicles with no way for emergency crews to get to them. Some commuters reported a seven hour ride home. The roadways from Bristol to Johnson City gave drivers a challenge. Parts of the roadway were shut down and traffic rerouted and traffic was at a crawl. In Erwin the slippery roadway sent a woman and her children into a waterway. They were all rescued. Kingsport schools has a city bus that slid off the roadway and stranded the ten bus riders for two hours. In southwest Virginia the roadways in Wise County were shut down after they were hit extremely hard by the snow. Several minor accidents were reported all throught the region. Several others were out on roadways in the evening hours even after local police asked for people to get to a safe location and stay put. (CC)
