Morning Crash Claims One Life At The Crossing Exit On I-81
A passenger received fatal injuries early Friday morning in a traffic crash. The Kingsport Police Department responded to the crash with injuries on Interstate 81 north bound at the Tri City Crossing Exit. Their investigation revealed that a 2006 Ford Focus with three occupants was being followed by a 2005 Volvo Tractor Trailer truck when the car started to skid and rotate on the icy snow covered roadway. Road conditions prevented the truck driver from avoiding the collision as he hit the car on the right side. All three of the occupants in the Ford were transported to Holston Valley Hospital with injuries but the passenger seated in the right rear of the vehicle was fatally injured. The truck driver was not injured in the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected and speed was not a factor. Names were not released until all family members could be notified. The ongoing investigation is being handled by the Traffic Unit but no charges are expected. (bg)
