Two Guilty Of Plotting To Harm FBI Agent
A federal grand jury has indicted a Cocke County man and his mother in a plot to harm a TBI agent. In Morristown charges were returned against 44-year-old Clayton Carroll Owenby and his 66-year-old mother, Kathleen Laws Garrett. Prosecutors say the two plotted to retaliate against Agent Matthew H. Thompson, who they blamed for his state conviction on drug charges. Owenby was convicted last year in Cocke County Criminal Court for selling Oxycodone. Court documents show evidence of intent to harm Thompson that was gathered from telephone conversations between the two who may not have been aware that jail calls were routinely recorded. Owenby is already held in jail on the drug conviction. (bg)
