Child Offered for Sale
Kingsport City Police have broken up a plan of a man to SELL his six-year-old daughter. 32-year-old Shawn Wayne Hughes of Fairway Avenue was arrested by officers the parking lot of Eastman Credit Union on Wilcox Drive and was ready to exchange his daughter for $1500 cash. Hughes had told a 75-year-old woman on the telephone that he was willing to sign away his parental rights to the child for $1500 bail money for his girlfriend. KPD was listening in on that phone call at request of family members who feared for the child’s safety.(CS)
