Pigeon Forge Wildfire Damage Set
Damage has been estimated in that forest fire earlier this month at Black Bear Ridge Resort near Pigeon Forge. Sevier County Emergency Management Agency Director, John Matthews says the initial count of cabins destroyed has dropped to 73 from 81 with an estimate of $12 million in losses. The March 17th incident had 270 volunteers from 48 different agencies fight the 160 acre fire. Apparently only one permanent residence was destroyed in the fire. Firefighters saved an estimated 200 homes from damage and a timely Sunday rain put a damper on the high dollar forest fire.(CS)
