Sullivan County stand-off
Sullivan County authorities say they were involved in a standoff Sunday night after a wanted man took drastic measures to evade bondsmen. 24-year-old John Ratcliff jumped through a trap door in a trailer located at 679 Deck Valley Road and refused to come out for officers who responded to the scene to assist the bondsman. Police had to dismantle a piece of underpinning and used a thermal camera to locate Ratliff. The man still refused to come toward police and from underneath the trailer. The standoff ended when police released a K-9 dog at the opening they had created and the man came out from under the house. Ratliff had active warrants for assault, possession of a weapon, and failure to appear in court. Ratliff did try to fight officers when he crawled out and then began to harm himself by beating his head against the patrol car. They had to put him on the ground in order to keep him from hurting himself. (CC)
