Former Teacher Faces Statutory Rape Charges
A former elementary school teacher has been arrested for the second time in a week. Carter County authorities say 40-year old Kelly Smith faces new charges based on an inappropriate relationship with a second student. Last week, Smith was charged for sexting a 13-year old girl. This time, a 16-year old student came forward and said she had sex with Smith last December stemming from a relationship that had been ongoing since she was in 6th grade. But sex with students doesn’t appear to be Smith’s only vice. Investigators say they also found an SKS assault rifle that had been stolen out of Knoxville. Kelly Smith was arrested last night. (JH)
