Hawkins County Budget Workshop
The Mount Carmel Board of Mayor and Aldermen found 3-thousand dollars to cut from the proposed budget last week. The deficit is still well over a hundred thousand dollars which is partly blamed on the purchase of a new tractor and boom. The next budget workshop is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The 3-thousand dollars were cut from the police departmentís budget by reducing office supplies and postage expenditures. There were no cuts made to the library budget so far but the county may be interested in taking the Mount Carmel library back into the Hawkins County Library System. The actual anticipated spending for 2012-13 is expected to come in under two and a half million. (bg)
