Drunken woman leaves baby in car
A Johnson City woman has been arrested in Elizabethton after she left her infant in a car parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. 40-year-old Tonya Renee Coleman faces charges of child neglect, possession of drugs and paraphernalia, and Driving under the influence. Police responded to the parking lot after calls that an infant was left alone in a car. Several minutes after officers arrived on the scene they say Coleman came up to him and had dilated pupils, was unsteady on her feet, and was slurring her speech. She told officers she had issues with her throat and must cut and snort the pills when officers found several different pills along with a cutting tool and a straw. Coleman also told them she had prescriptions for several of the medications. Officers say she also lied and told them she was checking on the child frequently and only left him for short intervals because she was looking at flowers but did not want to get the child out in the cold. Coleman admitted to driving to the store from Johnson City. (CC)
