Hospital Closing
Wellmont Health Systems has announced that they are closing the Lee County Regional Medical Center. The health care group cited the low census numbers of people utilizing the facility, and the difficult time they seem to have keeping it staffed as the reasons for the closure. The hospital is a 70-bed facility, but officials say that it remains largely empty since doctors are favoring sending patients to larger health care facilities. The Lee County hospital is expected to close by month’s end. (CC)
