Aquatics Center Award
The model city built a model aquatic center, and it is getting them recognition from the state. The American Public Works Association state chapter chose the Kingsport Aquatics Center as project of the year. The designation honors the planning, construction, and engineering of the projects. The aquatic center dealt with issues like flood plains, restoring wetlands, and raising the property. It also allows for future expansion, which could be needed sooner than thought, if the number of people utilizing the facility is any indication. The only complaint about the facility so far has been not enough parking spaces to fit all the visitors, something Kingsport sees as a positive problem and they are continuing to look into more parking space.
