Police Search for Broom Handle Bandit
Kingsport police are looking for a robber who struck the Gold Rush Store on Stone Drive, took a broom from the clerk and used the handle of it to hit the clerk when his demands were initially denied. Police say the robber appeared to pretend he had a gun in his pocket, but then used the broom handle to assault the clerk. He took jewelry and money and ran out of the store. The clerk was not seriously injured. Police say the suspect wore a plastic grocery bag over his face, appeared to be a white male, six feet one inches tall and slim. He wore a two tone black and blue jacket. (LM)
